STAGE 3: 30-45 years The trees that remain after thinning continue to mature during this stage of the forest cycle. Larger and fewer, these trees produce more seeds and cones, and attract animals that live in dens in addition to those that nest in the canopy. At this point professional foresters remove some trees to produce valuable products, replacing the harvested mature trees with seedlings. |
