STAGE 4: 45 years+ In this stage the forest continues to mature. Fewer trees result in even more open areas in the canopy. Dying from the inside out, some trees become hollow, creating cavities for den-based animals. Professional foresters harvest some of these older, larger trees to make high quality products. |
