Quality tools for improving classroom instruction

This interactive Professional Development series is intended to provide educators with professional development that is timely, convenient, and motivational. Too often training for educators does not meet these qualifications, or it only serves to overwhelm the already busy educator with information that is not necessarily validated by research.

MVP logoThe Most Valued Profession (MVP) series of multimedia courses serves as a clearinghouse for a validated database of information and strategies that educational research indicates to be effective in the field. Each course in the series focuses on one professional issue that is known to be most pressing to educators. The programs in this series are listed at right.

Before instruction can start, teachers must have the classroom organized and under control. The first program in the MVP series is aimed at beginning teachers who want a refresher on how to make the most of their time with their students. MORE>

Meeting the Reading Challenge
Reading Series

Reading and reading test scores invariably make it to the top of educator-expressed concerns.  Pre K-3 educators especially are challenged by beginning reading and finding the best methods for teaching young students to read.  Educators who teach older students are concerned with comprehensions skills . . . how can one teach using interesting materials if students cannot comprehend the texts?

One of the goals of the MVP professional development series is to provide educators with access to research and hands-on tools to help them succeed in the classroom—thus increasing student achievement. These two programs focus on helping educators provide better reading instruction.

These programs do not attempt to provide a set of strategies and instructional methods that will work with each and every student, but provide access to the "common menu’Äù of research-based strategies and methods from which educators can make responsible, well informed choices that will work in their own classrooms.
